True Food Kitchen

Yesterday was another crazy busy day in Phoenix! I planned on going running this morning but I am fighting some chest congestion so it just didn’t happen. C’set la vie. :)
It was absolutely beautiful out with a perfect high of 70 degrees. SO much better than the 20 degrees and snow Chris is battling back in Missouri
Mom and I decided to head out to Scottsdale Fashion Park to do some shopping and grab some lunch.
Our first stop was True Food Kitchen. From their website:
At True Food Kitchen, we celebrate simplicity. We practice sustainability. We believe that simple, fresh, pure ingredients create the most memorable and satisfying meals. And while our healthy menu is packed with nutritious, good-for-you vegetables, whole grain and proteins, we never sacrifice flavor.
The menu is designed around Dr. Weil’s Anti-Inflammatory Food Pyramid. Dr. Weil is a pioneer in the field of integrative medicine and is also world-renowned for his take on healthy living. You can learn more about him here.
The atmosphere was ultra modern. My favorite part was that the kitchen was open to the restaurant. You could actually see the chef’s preparing the meals from fresh ingredients. They boast that there isn’t a microwave in the joint! When choosing ingredients, the restaurant always buys organic when a food is on the “dirty dozen” list. All the liquid dairy is also organic.
There were so many amazing dishes on the menu it was difficult to decide what to get. We started off with the Miso Soup made with wild mushrooms and scallions.
Emmie hung out with her Mimi (my mom) all through lunch. She is such a good baby … I don’t have a problem taking her everywhere! She smiled and flirted with the waiter the entire lunch.
My mom had the Mediterranean Chopped Salad with cucumber, olive, cherry tomato, quinoa, feta, mercona almond and lemon oregano vinaigrette.
I had the Farmer’s Market Salad with kale, romaine, carrot, broccoli, avocado, grilled chicken, and manchego and champagne vinaigrette.
I absolutely loved this salad. The flavors were bold and unbelievably fresh. The champagne vinaigrette was light and flavorful. The chicken was grilled to perfection. I have to admit this was my first time having kale and I LOVED it. I can’t wait to incorporate it more into my diet.
For dessert we shared the flourless chocolate cake made with 72% cocoa, vanilla ice cream, and caramel.
There are two locations of True Food Kitchen in Arizona and two in California. You can find those locations here. Overall I really enjoyed this restaurant. It is definitely one I would come back to. I would love to bring Chris there the next time we are in Phoenix together.
After lunch we indulged in some retail therapy. First stop was … Lululemon. I did a little bit of damage
BUT I found my favorite tank on sale for $24!! I mean how do you NOT buy it?? I also got a cute running skirt and another tank. My mom surprised me by getting me a new gym bag. Totally enabling my addiction. We also hit of Baby Gap and H&M. It was definitely a successful trip.
At this point we were pretty wiped so we headed home to regroup. Emmie hit the floor to play for awhile. She is just such a happy baby and oh so fun. Her personality is appearing more and more!
We ended our day by grabbing a quick bite to eat with my step-brother Tony and Skyping with Chris. Another great day
