Wedding: The Details
| May 12, 2012 | Posted by Madeline @ Food, Fitness, and Family under Family, Wedding |
My anniversary is coming up in a couple of weeks and thinking about the last three years has got me feeling nostalgic. I realized that I didn’t really blog when I got married so I missed out on doing the fun wedding recap posts. Therefore, I have decided to do them now. I will be doing a 5-week series detailing my favorite aspects of my wedding. So many things have happened in the last three years and Chris’ and my relationship has come so far. We have moved three times, survived a 12 month deployment, and welcomed the most beautiful baby girl into the world. My wedding was one of the best days of my life and I am really excited to share the details with all of you!
THE DETAILS
I loved all the little details of our wedding however I am super bummed that Pinterest did not exist. Or Etsy really for that matter. I now see such amazing and creative things and I kick myself a little bit
However, I loved every aspect of our wedding day and deep down I wouldn’t change anything!
The Dress
I bought my wedding dress 11 months before my wedding. I had a hard time picking between the fit-to-flare dress I chose and a dress with a MUCH larger skirt. I went with the lighter dress because umm I was getting married in June. In Phoenix, Arizona. The lighter the better
The Flowers
Sunflowers are my all-time favorite flower and I knew from the beginning I wanted them in my wedding. I wanted to stick with the garden wedding theme and asked our florist to design wild-flower-like bouquets. I was thrilled with how they turned out and loved the contrasting colors with the bridesmaid dresses.
Accessories
My mom gave me the pearl necklace for my graduation from college … three weeks prior. It was the perfect accessory for my wedding dress. When it came to shoes I knew I wanted to do a fun color but had a REALLY hard time finding low heels in the right pink. My mom and I happened upon these at Nordstrom literally 6 days before my wedding. SCORE.
Sand Ceremony
Instead of doing a traditional unity candle we opted to perform a sand ceremony instead. For one, our wedding was outdoors so the candles wouldn’t have flickered as beautifully as they do in a church. Second, I wanted something to keep. The filled jar now sits on our entertainment center and is engraved with our monogram and wedding date.
Venue
We got married at Stonebridge Manor in Mesa, Arizona. I have nothing but awesome things to say about this amazing venue. If you are planning a wedding in the greater Phoenix area I HIGHLY recommend it. We have zero complaints, our guests loved it, and it’s absolutely beautiful.
Reception Details
Our cake was absolutely to die for. Each layer was a different flavor combination and guests were able to choose what they wanted. I remember my favorite layer … champagne cake with buttercream frosting and fresh strawberries. I have dreams about this cake. The other layers were red velvet cake with cream cheese filling (#2 favorite), chocolate with buttercream, and lemon cake with raspberry filling. I never actually saw the champagne glasses and how cute they were because guests were handed their glass as they entered the reception. Once again, our florist did an awesome job on our center pieces.
The Rings
Thank you so much for allowing me to indulge a bit and share my memories with you! Next week I’ll introduce you to our bridal party
If you’re married, what was one of your favorite details from your wedding? If you’re not, is Pinterest your best friend?

ps the sand idea is genius. I have been trying to decide on what we should do since it’s outdoors and i dont want the candle to go out/be a pain. There are so many cute ideas.

Love this idea about you going through your wedding with us! I love the idea about making each layer of your cake a different flavor – great idea.
I’m currently engaged, we will be getting married 12/28/2013 and yes pintrest is my best friend!! I’m not creative at all so its very helpful to see what people do so I can try and recreate it in my own way
gorgeousgorgeousgorgeous. every last bit. #obsessed
We got married on the beach so we opted for pouring of liquids instead of the candles. It was suppose to be red and blue, then poured together to become purple. But however coloured the red and blue’s, didn’t really get the concept that a few drops colour a lot of water and put the whole food colouring containers in! So when we poured our liquids into the mutually container, it was more brown. The bride wasn’t too impressed with that at all lol

I have only one word – GORGEOUS! Your dress is absolutely stunning, I love the accessories and the heels. The flowers are GORGEOUS too! I love them. It couldn’t have been more perfect!
One of my favorite details of my wedding was our reception. We had it in an old barn, which is a historical site as well and we did a family-style dinner at each of the tables. I loved every second of it.

I’m planning my best friends wedding for her (technically she’s not engaged yet but we all know that’s coming!), and her wedding is going to be so pinterested up!
