Kindness Challenge

Normally I would be posting a weekend recap but to be honest I didn’t even think about blogging this weekend.  I spent most of it doing chores, finishing homework, and playing with Emmalyne.  If you did mis my Weekly Top 10 post from yesterday make sure to check it out.

While I don’t have a recap for you this weekend, I do have a challenge for your week.  But before I get to the challenge, I have to give you some background.  My parents divorced when I was 5-6 years old (no I don’t remember exactly) and I was raised by my single mom.  My mom is and was incredible.  One of the things that she insisted we do every night was eat dinner together at the kitchen table.  She would light candles, turn on classical music, and ask me about my day.  My responses would sometimes include an eye roll or two because I didn’t understand then the importance of what we were doing.  I do now.

One of the things she would ask me every single day was what act of kindness did I do that do for someone else.  Did I sit with someone new at lunch?  Hold the door open?  Say hello to someone who needed a friend?  No answer was no small.  No act unimportant.  It made me go out of my way each day to think of something I could DO for someone else.  A way to put others before myself.

As an adult, I find that life sometimes gets in the way.  We get busy, wrapped up in our own world, and sometimes forget to take that extra little step to lift up someone else.  So, I am issuing you, and myself, a challenge.  I challenge you to do a random act of kindness this week.  It could be for your spouse, your friend, or a complete stranger.  Just go out of your way to do something special for another human being.  That is all.

Imagine how amazing the world would be if everyone was going around doing this?  Lives can change by the smallest action.  Be that change.

Next week, I am going to follow up with you on some of my random acts of kindness.  I truly hope you’ll come back and share yours too.
