Fitness Friday

Happy Friday everyone!  We made it through another week :)  My mother-in-law Yon got into town last night and I am super excited for some fun family activities as well as time to myself this next week!  One thing I am really looking forward to is running sans stroller.  Can I get a heck yes?!  Any-who, since it’s Friday it means it’s time for another Fitness Friday recap of my week in workouts :)







Monday morning I hit up a yoga class at the gym.  As a warm-up I walked on the treadmill for 10 minutes.  The vinyasa class was meh, ok.  I never regret a yoga class though!  After I hit the weights and lifted heavy on chest and back.



Tuesday Workout Fitness Friday

Tuesday was a 4-mile run on the treadmill.  I changed the speed every 1/2 mile just to not get bored.  After I did a bicep and tricep workout.



Wednesday Walk

Wednesday morning I did a ladder workout on the treadmill for the first time.  I loved it!  I will post it soon :)  Then I lifted on shoulders and abs.  Later in the afternoon Heather came over for a 2-mile walk with Emmie and the pups :)



Rest.  I had to go to the grocery store, had lunch with the girls, and had some final things to prep for Yon’s visit.


This morning I am going to yoga at Awakening Yoga Studio for detox yoga in the morning with Lisa.  I love Lisa and her classes and look forward to going every week.  Then I have runch plans with the girls.  :)

10 Running Tidbits

I saw this fun quiz a few weeks ago on Paige’s blog and LOVED it.  I love hearing what other runners like the best because it can introduce me to new products or things to try!  SO, I thought I would share mine with you.


1.  FUEL: Shot Bloks, GU, Energy Chews, Candy or Other?

I am a BIG fan of chews.  I like the Gu Chomps and recently have become addicted to the Honey Stinger cherry chews.  They taste like fruit snacks, are made from good ingredients, and get the job done.  I can’t handle gels no matter how hard I try to.  The consistency is terrible to me and I can’t choke it down.

2.  Race Length: 5K, 10K, 1/2 Marathon, Marathon, Ultra or Other?

I am undecided on this one.  I wrote about short vs. long runs awhile back.  I feel like for actual racing, the shorter distances are my best.  I love the feeling of accomplishment I have after completing a half though … otherwise I wouldn’t be going back for my 4th.

3.  Workout Bottoms: Skirts, Running Shorts, Capris, Pants, or Other?

Definitely a shorts girl.  I am not a huge fan of there being much on my legs when I race and I tend to get hot.  With the colder temps though I have switched to capris and will likely stay in them until the spring.  They are a compromise of sorts I guess :)


4.  Sports Drink: Gatorade, Powerade, Cytomax, you stick to water when you run or Other?

When I run I stick to water.  During a race I will drink Gatorade/Powerade if it’s offered every couple of water stations but I don’t train with it.  Before and after long runs or races though I do hydrate with nuun.  I love me some nuun.  Particularly the strawberry lemonade or grape flavors.  YUM.

5.  Running temperatures: HOT or COLD?

Umm neither?  I prefer temperatures in the 60’s haha.  I seriously suffer during hot running though and my runs tend to be terrible so if I had to choose I would say cold.  I can layer it up for cold and eventually I warm up anyway.


6.  Running Shoe Brands: Saucony, Mizuno, Nike, Brooks, Asics, or Other?

I am currently, and have been for the last year or so, running Brooks Adrenalines and absolutely love them.  I have raced my last 2 half-marathons in them and trained the entire time in them.  They make my feet feel great and I love to Run Happy :)

7.  Pre-Race Meal: Oatmeal. Bagel, Banana, Eggs, Cereal or Other?

I stick with a Rudi’s whole wheat English muffin with flax  or toast covered in peanut butter and chia seeds and a banana on the sides.  I also tend to have a cup of coffee.

8.  Rest Days: 1x per week, 2x per week, never ever ever or Other?

I tend to rest 1-2 days per week depending on my schedule.  I run 3-4 times a week and cross-train with weights, yoga, and the elliptical on the other days.  I also tend to do “active rest” on my off days in the form of walking the dogs and Emmalyne.


9.  Music: Have to have it or go without it?

If I am running by myself I HAVE to have music.  If I am running with friends or Chris I don’t listen to it.  Interesting enough, I didn’t listen to music on either of my last 2 half-marathons even though I was running alone.


10.  #1 reason for running: stress-relief, endorphins, you love to race, so you can eat all the cupcakes you want, weight-loss, love running for social reasons or other?

I just LOVE to run.  I take it as ME time.  I sort through things going on in my life, make plans for the coming weeks, etc.  I also love running because I can do it with Emmalyne.  I hope one day she loves to run (or be active) as much as I do.  Chris and I make it a family affair which makes running that much more fun.  I also do it for the cupcakes.  DUH.

Happy Wednesday friends!  I am super excited to be half-way through the week.  My mother-in-law comes tomorrow and I am stoked for Emmalyne to get some quality grandma time in!  I want to take a minute and give a HUGE shout-out to my #Elf4Health Paula!  Today is her birthday.  Head to her blog and send her some love :)  Since it’s Wednesday, it’s time for another What I Ate Wednesday with the lovely Jenn of Peas and Crayons :)


WIAW Breakfast


Yup.  A typical breakfast for me.  Some eggs scrambled with spinach, fruit, a Rudi’s whole-wheat English muffin half, and a lonely slice of bacon.  A hot cup of Dunkin Donuts pumpkin spice coffee on the side.

I made another favorite.  A buffalo chicken salad.  I used Applegate chicken nuggets for the chicken and shared them with Emmalyne.  Tasty.

Em and I ran to the grocery store after the gym and I bought and ate a Larabar there.  This is the same kind but photographed at home because I couldn’t wait.  A honeycrisp apple in the afternoon.  Tons of water.



Umm … confession.  Around 5PM I started feeling terrible.  I was sick to my stomach.  The only thing I want when I don’t feel well is McDonalds fries.  So I did.  #DontJudge

Winter Fashion with No nonsense


Slowly but surely temperatures are starting to drop here in Savannah.  Today my car read 37* when I left for the gym at 8:30.  BRR.  That may not seem cold to many of you, but remember I am an Arizona girl at heart 😉  I about froze last winter when we lived in Missouri!  With the cooler temperatures comes changes in how I dress.  Now, I live in my Lululemon Wunder Unders most days of the week BUT on the occasion that I *gasp* have somewhere to be I like to take advantage of that and dress nice.


When No nonsense offered to send me some corduroy leggings and colored tights to try out you better believe I was all over that.  I didn’t get a picture of the packages when they arrived because I was too excited.  Blogger fail 😉


The first outfit I made was using the brown corduroy leggings.  I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive about how these would love but after seeing I Love You More Than Carrots in a similar pair recently I got the confidence to give them a go.  And I am glad I did!

The No nonsense leggings were so flipping comfortable. I wore them to the movies for Chris’ birthday and might as well have been wearing pajamas.  They were flattering and definitely provided enough coverage.  When I asked Chris what he thought about them he was surprised to realize they were leggings … he thought they were pants!  Goes to show the structure is good 😉  Also, being 5’8, they were long enough to not be mid-calf.  Another win in my book 😉


I was also sent a pair of mustard yellow No nonsense tights.  I am a self-admitted black-and-neutral clothing addict.  However, I love pops of color.  These tights are definitely a pop of color.

The tights were super soft and comfortable.  They also had a control top which most mamas will appreciate 😉  Mustard yellow is one of my favorite fashion colors and I am excited to dream up of another way to wear these tights!

Weekend Recap

Our long weekend has officially come to an end.  Chris has been home the last 4 days and it has been wonderful.  We didn’t do anything extremely exciting, but we did take time together as a family and relaxed.  After the hustle and bustle of the last couple of weeks it was perfect.


Friday was Chris’ birthday.  We got a babysitter in the afternoon so we could hit the matinee showing of Lincoln.  Apparently the movie theatre didn’t think they would be busy on Black Friday because there was one person working concessions.  I literally waited 30 minutes for some movie theatre popcorn.  Oh well, it was worth it 😉




The movie itself was very good to these two history buffs.  I thought Daniel Day Lewis was incredible.  The movie gave a great look at one of the most incredible human beings and how the 13th amendment came to be passed and therefore slavery abolished in the United States.  Incredible.


After the movie, we headed home and started getting things ready for dinner.  Chris and I decided to do “surf and turf” at home this year in lieu of going out.  We didn’t want to deal with the chaos.  So, we grilled crab legs, steaks, potatoes, and corn instead.  Every bite was absolutely delicious.  We topped it off with chocolate birthday cake.

Saturday was a family focused day.  We got it started right by trimming the Christmas tree.  I have a whole post dedicated to our family traditions during the holiday season but our tree is one of them.  I always have so much fun remembering the ornaments as they go up on the tree.  Side note: Emmalyne has been fabulous with the tree.  She went for it once, I explained how she had to be “gentle” and she has only pet the ornaments since.  Now that I wrote that though she will probably knock it down.

Later in the afternoon we took a break and headed out for a family walk.  We did a fast 2.3 miles in the neighborhood.  It was an absolutely beautiful day and both Emmalyne and the dogs appreciated getting out in the fresh air.

Sunday was full of church and chores.  Chris’ mom is coming this week so we spent a majority of our day deep cleaning the house.  I also made a new cleaning chart:

I had a different one before when we lived in Missouri.  Now we have more space and less bathrooms so it was time I tweaked it.  I plan on doing a whole post on home organization in the near future too 😉


Overall it was a long, low-key weekend.  Things are about to get crazy with Christmas quickly approaching so I appreciated the quiet moments we spent together this weekend as a family.
