Dealing with Toddler Boo-Boos & The Thermal-Aid Bear

Yesterday was quite the day for miss Emmie-Lou-Who. We had her 15-month check up at lucky for us she is one healthy girl! She’s slowed down a bit on height … still 85% mind you … which means we might have a normal sized child
She also got three shots which she took like a champ. We thought the worst was over when we left the doctor’s office but we were wrong.
Let me set the scene for you. Em and I walk into the house after the doctor. We head to the laundry room so I can switch out laundry. She’s sitting on the floor while I am doing my thing when she lets out the biggest wail. I look down. And see the blood.
I can only assume that she bumped her mouth on something. I didn’t hear a thump but who knows. She was literally right under my feet. Luckily it was a small cut on her bottom lip but the poor thing swelled super fast. I wiped it down with a wet washcloth and grabbed a bag of frozen peas. Em happily munched on the bag while we watched some Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the couch.
Emmalyne is a tough cookie though and was fine just a few minutes later. Thank goodness! Do you see the cute pink bear in the photo? This is one of our new “gadgets”!
My dad and stepmom got Emmalyne this Thermal-Aid teddy bear for Christmas. It can go in the freezer or be microwaved. The Thermal-Aid products can:
- Help reduce fevers - sick kiddos can cuddle the bear after it’s been in the freezer
- Relieves pain - either through cold or heat
You can read even more about them HERE. It helps that it is super cute and cuddly too! While it wasn’t in the freezer already (mom fail), Em was happy to cuddle with it while munching on her peas. It is also completely washable to rid it of germs. I hadn’t heard of these before and am so glad we were gifted one for Em. You can find it HERE. I can see it coming in handy for years to come with the amount of boo boos I see head of us
How do you handle boo boos for yourself or your kids? I always have ice packs in the freezer for Chris and I and we also have a heating pad.

Disclaimer: We got this as a gift from family. I am just writing about it because I think it’s super cool and thought you might too

Poor baby! I remember growing up we had a cloth bunny with a hole in the middle you could put ice in, and we used that whenever we had a boo boo!

It’s like a huge boo-boo bunny! Did you have one of those growing up? haha Hope Em is feeling alright.

Aw, Poor Emmie! I have an almost 11 month old daughter and we literally had the SAME scenario happen the other night, she was down at my feet playing, all of a sudden cries and I pick her up and her little lip was gushing blood! Sure stops your heart when you first see it bleeding doesn’t it? Glad she felt better shortly after! PS: I love your blog! I’ve been reading it daily for awhile now but this is my first comment.
[...] I think Emmalyne’s shots caught up to her yesterday because it was a rough day. Luckily her ‘boo boo’ is feeling a little bit better and not nearly as swollen. However, she was clingy and sad [...]
Oh no! Poor thing! We’ve dealt with our fare share of bumps and cuts and my son is only 21 months! I think “son” is the key word there… boys! Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cures all! He will stop crying at the first sound of it. I keep frozen bananas on hand for him to suck on if he bumps or cuts his lips. Head bumps (which he’s had a few) are a different story. We have a bunny ice pack that he sort of uses but other than that haven’t found anything that really works. Might give that bear a try! Cute!
