Unwind Your Hips & Pure Barre Savannah
| January 21, 2013 | Posted by Madeline @ Food, Fitness, and Family under Savannah, Yoga |
Happy Monday friends! It has been quite the eventful weekend over here. Emmalyne and I spent ALL day Saturday traveling back from Phoenix to Savannah. It was 12 hours from getting to the airport to walking in the door of toddler-induced chaos. Needless to say I was wiped. Luckily I had a “me” day planned yesterday while Em and Chris spent some quality time together. Even luckier? I got to spend it with Victoria
Victoria met me at my house at noon for a salad beast lunch and some catch up time. Before we knew it, it was time to head to Awakening Yoga Studio for the “unwind your hips” workshop with Daniele Britt. The workshop was entirely hip based, 2 hours long, and only $25. It was also a full house.
Daniele is an experienced yogi who specializes in “back care” yoga. We started the class taking a look at the anatomy we would be working. Daniele made a great point that you get so much more out of your practice if you know what area of your body you are working.
Then it was time to get into our practice. I have only good things to say about this workshop. Some of the poses we practiced were new to me and others were familiar but Daniele constantly offered ways to modify the poses to your level or helped you get deeper into the poses. There were a variety of levels in the class and I am confident that everyone walked away feeling amazing.
My hips have never been so loose … except maybe the day I had Emmie haha. I felt challenged every moment of the class and left feeling loose, limber, and strong. If you are in coastal Georgia. I strongly suggest taking one of Daniele’s classes. She was an exceptional instructor … warm, welcoming, and most of all, knowledgeable. Thanks Lisa and Awakening Yoga Studio for providing me with another opportunity to enhance and deepen my practice! Locals … check AYS out!
After the workshop, Victoria and I headed downtown to hit up the grand opening party for Pure Barre Savannah. I am SO stoked that they are here now. When I took a Pure Barre class in Phoenix last year I was super impressed and LOVED it. I can’t wait to try a class here in Savannah. For the grand opening they had a Lululemon trunk show which was right up my alley.
Pure Barre is a barre method fitness class focused on lifting your booty and toning your thighs while working out to awesome music. My booty was never been so sore as it was after this class! I highly recommend checking it out if you have one near you. Tons of people turned out for the event too which was really exciting. There was some tasty food too and some adult beverages.
I had a great time hanging out with Victoria and also had the chance to talk to one of the instructors and some of the regular clientele. The passion these women felt for Pure Barre was contagious! Now, to fit in a class to my schedule …
I had such a great day yesterday focusing a bit on myself. As a stay-at-home mom, sometimes it is easy to lose a bit of my identity. It’s days like yesterday that leave me refreshed and ready to tackle another week
How do you re-center yourself? Do anything fun this weekend?

I’m so jealous that you have a pure barre! I keep hearing amazing things about it and my thighs neeeeeed it. Where can I petition to bring one to Mooresville?

Seriously it was amazing.
I need that hip class too. OMG, my hips are so stinking tight it’s ridiculous.
And I am dying to try a barre type class. My daughter is a dancer and I see how strong she is after ballet and I know it’d be a great workout. One of her teachers is getting trained as a Cardio Barre instructor and when she starts teaching, I’m totally going.
Looks like a wonderful weekend.

I danced ballet for years and was so long and lean and strong. Pure Barre took me back to my dancing days.
So jealous!! Instead of opening my hips yesterday, I most likely tightened them up during my 13 miles! I bought a pure barre living social and need to redeem soon. Let me know when you plan to go! I went once and it was a very interesting experience!
Will do! I should have gotten the deal when I had the chance.
I saw your tweet (or instagram?) about this and was like THIS sounds like something I need. Now I see it looks like it, too
My hips are always so tight.

This workshop was the bomb. My hips are so happy!
I’ve never heard of Pure Barre until I read about it on Victoria’s blog and now yours. Is there a beginner class? This sounds like some I would love to try

I have friends that did pure barre until the day they gave birth and they bounced back SO FREAKING GOOD. So why wait? It focuses on all the areas you want strong for L&F: lugs, tush, and core!
A yoga class that focuses on your hips sounds amazing after my 7 mile run yesterday!
Pure Barre sounds great too!
