Blue Turtle Bistro

How many of you tried the Soldier of Steel™ workout yesterday? I have it on my plan for the week! I have been seeing some sweaty Instagram pics and am excited to give it a shot. After an indulgent weekend last weekend it might just be in order too
Last weekend was one of celebrations. You see, every so many years Father’s Day and my birthday coincide. This year was one of those years. It makes “gifting” my own dad pretty easy since I can say I am the best Father’s Day gift ever, no? This year I had to share the day with another special man – Chris! We decided to beat the crowds and go out to dinner on Saturday with some friends. We tried out the Blue Turtle Bistro on the recommendation of my eye specialist and it didn’t disappoint! Our criteria was good food and kid friendly and our expectations were met.
I mean, could you get more kid friendly then this?! The restaurant has a designated kid play area with toys, books, and fun things to sit on. Since we got there early in the evening (5:30PM) the place was pretty empty and we scored a table next to the fun zone. It was so nice for Emmie to get to play while we chatted with our friends.
For starters, Chris and I got the cheese sampler for 2. I wish I had written down what exact cheeses they were but I didn’t. HA. The one on the left is a cheddar with sage that was really good, the one in the middle was from Finland and kind of like a brie (also good), and the last one was from England and was made with mustard (not so good). My favorite part was that the plate came with some Savannah Bee Company honeycomb …. YUM!
For dinner, I ordered the NY strip steak with bacon-fat-tossed fingerling potatoes, local AmFrog roasted mushrooms, and seasonal vegetables. The steak was cooked perfectly and the potatoes and veggies were delicious also. I am not a huge fan of chimichurri sauce so I am glad that I asked for it on the side.
We had a great time with our friends. They are expecting their first baby (a girl!) in August and I am co-hosting a shower for her this weekend. It was fun talking baby stuff with her while they boys entertained Emmalyne in the fun zone. I mean really … what husbands REALLY want to talk labor & delivery and postpartum “issues”? Not mine. ;)
The restaurant recently changed out their pastry chef so most of the dessert menu was unavailable. Chris and I opted to run into Publix on our way home for a slice of cake with buttercream frosting. We enjoyed in together after putting the Emster down for the night.
Overall, I definitely recommend the Blue Turtle. The atmosphere is really modern and the menu is diverse. There were options for the vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, and carnivore alike The fun zone gives it a mom seal of approval as well.
Have you ever been to a restaurant that had a designated area for kids to have fun? Besides Peter Piper Pizza that is?
