It’s been awhile since I did an update on what Emmalyne is up to. In fact, I am pretty sure the last one was when she was 18 months old. OOPS. Emmalyne is now 22 months old and quickly approaching her second birthday. Someone hold me. My baby is so not a baby any more … Although she will always be MY baby
Emmalyne is seriously such a joy. She has so much fire within her! I hope I never put that fire out … However, I would like to tame it a little bit at times She is full of personality, life, and so much love. One of my friends watched her for the two days I was in interviews for PA school and she said that Emmalyne is so much fun and easy but boy is she BUSY! And busy she is. When she is up, she doesn’t stop.
Emmalyne has always loved to read but her love for reading has turned into an absolute obsession. She carries books with her everywhere. I can often find her in her rocking chair reading aloud to herself. It seems like she is telling a story because there will be a “where is it?”, “uh-oh!”, “oh-no”, “there it is!” as she is turning the pages. At bed time, she promptly picks out 3 books for Chris or I to read to her. She always likes a book in bed with her at nighttime and naps. She will quietly read until she is ready to go to sleep. She truly is her mother’s daughter.
Lately, around 6:30PM, she says “night night” and drags me to my bedroom where we snuggle under the covers and read books together until it really is time for night-night. I cherish these moments because I know how fleeting they are.
These last few months Em has gotten really into crafts. She loves to play with play dough and color with crayons and markers. When she is using a marker, she makes these very small, fine lines all over the paper. Her fine motor sills are pretty good!
She’s also really into painting … either at her play table or at her easel. She will grab her smock and paintbrushes as a way to tell me what wants to paint. I am so happy we put together her playroom because it has provided us with so many hours of fun and keeps her chaos relatively contained. We also haven’t had any more Sharpie incidents which is pretty nice
That being said, I feel like 18-24 months is a really fun time but it is also a very challenging time for a parent. Emmalyne knows exactly what she wants, and although her vocabulary and communication skills are pretty extensive, she still gets frustrated when I don’t catch on right away. It has led to some pretty epic tantrums and me craving a cold beer hard core. She also has so much personality in such a tiny body and gives me some of the most outrageous looks. She has a pretty mean evil eye
At the end of the day though, her hugs and kisses make every trying moment better and worth it. I am so lucky that this little person is mine. I learn more about life and love every second that I spend with her and I just want to soak it all up. I can’t believe we are already planning her second birthday. I feel like that is a sentiment I am going to be echoing for the rest of my life.
We are off to Las Vegas today! Stay tuned for a sneak peek into Emmalyne’s carry-on tomorrow Have a happy Thursday!
