Loving Lean Legs Circuit
| April 12, 2012 | Posted by Madeline @ Food, Fitness, and Family under 1/2 Marathon, At Home Workout, Baby, Cardio, Circuits, FitFluential, Lower Body, Weights |
After 12 hours yesterday, the movers are gone. As is our stuff. I am currently laying on the floor with a pillow under my chest for comfort. We are pretty much down to our TV, an air mattress, and 2 folding chairs. Fun times. We are like this until Tuesday. A bigger crisis? Chris let the movers pack my foam roller. With the half marathon this weekend I about lost my mind. Especially since we will be in the car 15+ hours next week. Oy vie. Silly husbands.
Emmie and I snuck out of the house yesterday morning to get out of the way. Naturally we went to the gym. I am really going to miss the gym here. It is run by Marines and Engineers so they don’t care that Emmalyne just hangs out with me. I set her up with her blanket and toys and she laughs at me while I work out. It’s quite the experience.
I had my second to last training run yesterday. I knocked out a 30 minute tempo run for 3.33 miles in 30 minutes … or 9 min/mile. During the run all I could think about was how HEAVY my legs felt and it didn’t make sense. 3ish miles is an optimal short run in my book and I usually feel like a rockstar. It wasn’t until after I was done that I remembered I did sumo deadlift drop sets yesterday as a part of Best Body Bootcamp. Deadlifts will get you every time
Before calling it a day I did my six pack summer abs workout and felt a nice burn in my core. Get to get ready to rock that bikini!
Speaking of bikinis … who wouldn’t want legs like Jennifer Aniston when they are hitting the beach this summer ? That was for you Danielle …
I know I love a good leg workout so I dreamed up this little doozy for you. Enjoy!
All you need for this workout is YOU and a timer of sorts. I did it in a small space … just like my garage cardio circuit and it’s perfect to squeeze this workout in during naptime at home! To up the intensity you can add weights or do the circuit a 4th time. To make it easier, do it 2 times thru. Not familiar with some of the moves? No fear … here you go:
- Single Leg Circles
- Jump Squats (without the dumbbells)
- Plie Squat (with or without weight)
- Double Crunch
- Crossover Lunge (with our without weight)
Today I am running my last training run, having one last lunch with the girls, and having dinner with some of our friends. We have met some amazing people here who I am sure will be life-long friends. It’s one of the most amazing aspects of military life. Thank you everyone for the kind tweets and messages wishing us well with the move … we are lucky that we had really awesome movers!
How are you getting beach ready? What’s your favorite lower body exercise?
Six Pack Summer Ab Workout
| April 5, 2012 | Posted by Madeline @ Food, Fitness, and Family under Abs, At Home Workout, FitFluential, Weekly Workouts |
Summer is right around the corner whether we like it or not. It was almost 90 degrees here the other day! With the warmer weather means that bikini season is a-coming also … gulp! With us moving to Savannah and having a close proximity to the beach this mama has definitely been working on her core lately. My goal is to at some point feel as confident in a bikini as I did on my honeymoon.
Have you heard the saying abs are made in the kitchen? It’s totally true. A healthy, clean diet is your surest way of getting your abs to show. However, working them out helps develop them the same way lifting does for your biceps. A strong core helps to stabilize your spine and protects your internal organs. A weak core is often a contributing factor to lower back injuries.
I work out my abs in some way (almost) daily. Normally this is by my #plankaday. #Plankaday is a Twitter hashtag anyone can use. The goal is to do a plank a day (get it? hehe) every day. Then tweet it. The @PlankPolice get on you if you have missed a few days too. It’s a great way to keep you accountable! And who doesn’t have time to bust out a plank a day? I do mine during commercials or while I sing songs to Emmie. You can find more info about it here. Edited To Add: There is also a great plank challenge going on for April via Carolynn of Just Keep-Running!
Craving more? I thought so! Here is a quick ab-burning circuit to get you ready to rock your bikini this summer.
Throw this into your routine a couple times a week and feel the burn
I particularly love it since you don’t need equipment and can do it in your living room. WIN.
I have two BIG posts over the next couple of days … Emmalyne’s 6 month update and my post-baby body update. Can’t wait to share the adorable pics I got of Emmie with you guys
What’s your favorite ab exercise? Do you #plankaday?
Upper Body Blast Work-Out
| March 1, 2012 | Posted by Madeline @ Food, Fitness, and Family under At Home Workout, Cardio, Circuits, Uncategorized, Upper Body |
When Chris and I went to bed Tuesday night at 10:30PM we knew we were in a tornado watch. What we didn’t know was that at 12:45AM we would be jolted out of bed by the blaring tornado sirens, grabbing our phones, dogs, and baby, and racing to our downstairs bathroom to take shelter. Oh … and then be there for another 45 minutes until the all clear. I was then too jazzed to fall back asleep. Fun times. I am incredibly thankful our area was not hit … tornadoes are no joke! Needless to say though, it was rather difficult to find motivation yesterday.
We all have those days though … the days where finding motivation to get off our bums and workout is so darn hard! One of my biggest excuses is … I don’t want to waste the extra time to drive to the gym. Lame, I know. SO I am trying to override that excuse my creating some awesome “at home” workouts to do on the days where I am pressed for time or just don’t have the extra 30 minutes in commuting to commit. That’s where this upper body blast workout comes in to play.
Have limited space? NO PROBLEM. We live in a townhouse and it’s an understatement to say we are cramped. I successfully did this workout in my kitchen
BUT it could easily be taken outdoors as well!
Equipment Needed:
- Dumbbells (I use 10lb and 5lb)
- Jump Rope
- Chair
- Timer (I used my iPhone)
WHOA … seriously, my arms were burning! Definitely pushed my muscles to fatigue each round. The front/lateral raises before the plank make the plank that much harder! LOVE it!
The best part of this workout? I was done in 25 minutes! Great upper body strength builder and some cardio thrown in too. Check out my Garage Cardio Circuit for another go-to workout to do in the comfort of your own home
