Fashion Friday: Neon Shorts
| April 26, 2013 | Posted by Madeline @ Food, Fitness, and Family under Fashion |
Hey guys! I know I have been a bit sporadic the last 2 weeks … things have been a bit crazy around here with Emmie being sick, Army commitments, and my MIL in town. Things should be back to “normal” in another week or so. Thanks for bearing with me! I am so thankful you guys keep coming back
I have another fun outfit to share with you guys. I found these awesome neon pink shorts at J.Crew back in January when I was home in Phoenix. They were $5! Proof that with some smart shopping you can get name-brand clothes for cheap.
Shirt: LOFT
Shorts: J.Crew
Shoes: TOMS
Hope you guys have an excellent Friday and upcoming weekend!

Just popping in! Thank goodness it’s FRIDAY! We are still on the path towards recovery over here so I thought I would share a “fashion Friday” post with you. Am I the most fashionable mom? HECK NO. However, I try to pull it together every so often with a cute outfit and thought I would share
Leggings: Lululemon Wunder Unders

I wore this for meetings on post and running errands. Comfortable, casual, and still a little fashionable. Proof that you don’t have to wear mom jeans
Have a great weekend friends! My mother-in-law arrives tonight for a 3-week stay. Time to get ready
PSST – did you see Em’s 18 month update? I die.

The Futures So Bright -Sunglasses Shop Giveaway
| March 8, 2013 | Posted by Madeline @ Food, Fitness, and Family under Fashion, GIveaway |
My name is Madeline and I am addicted to my sunglasses.
There. I said it. Not a bad addiction to have right? I seriously cannot stand being out in the sun without shade. I hate squinting my eyes and I get a wicked headache from it. So, I always always have sunglasses with me. Over the years I have tried different styles and brands finding ones that I loved and could do without. For the last year or so I have been on the hunt for the perfect pair of aviator sunglasses so I could channel my inner Top Gun. When the Sunglasses Shop offered to send me a pair of designer sunglasses to review I hopped up and down and said heck yes.
When I went to their site to pick out a pair I was super impressed with the brands they carry. Ray-Ban sunglasses, Oakley, Gucci, Tom Ford, and so much more! You can easily browse by brand, style, and gender making finding the perfect pair of sunglasses simple. You can find Sunglasses Shop on Twitter and Facebook too!
I ended up choosing the Ray-Ban 3025 Aviators in Arista. These sunglasses had the classic look I was going for and a color that would match and accentuate any outfit.
I absolutely love these sunglasses. They fit my face well and I love the lens color. I have been wearing them non-stop since I got them! I even showed them off to you already on Instagram
The best part about this entire thing? YOU have the chance to win a pair too! The Sunglasses Shop is giving away a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses to one lucky Food Fitness and Family reader! Enter via the Rafflecopter widget below
Rules: Giveaway will run from March 8 to midnight on March 13. Winner will be announced on the blog on March 14.
Are sunglasses a MUST for you like they are for me?

Mom Fashion: Cute Workout Clothes Boost Confidence
| January 15, 2013 | Posted by Madeline @ Food, Fitness, and Family under Fashion, FitGear, Sponsored |
One of the biggest myths I have ever heard is that stay-at-home moms sit around and get to do whatever they want all day. Truth be told, I may or may not have had an opinion of that nature before I became a SAHM myself. I now know how wrong I was. I am just as busy now as I was when I was teaching … but now I also am 100% responsible for someone else’s well-being as well! Due to a hectic schedule, I often find myself wearing my workout clothes on errands or informal meetings. When I first had Emmie my fitness fashion consisted of old, baggy running shorts and t-shirts. I had no idea how much a well-structured pair of workout pants could change how I felt and looked. In my personal opinion (and feel free to disagree with me), cute workout clothes can help boost your confidence. Or at least they did with me.
When I put myself together in the morning and get ready for the gym, I feel good. I like how my clothes fit, I like bright colors, and I feel like I am making progress towards my goals. Much more so than I did when I wore ill-fitting and old stuff. I worked hard to get my body back after baby and I kind of like showing it off at the gym. Plus, if I have to run to the grocery store after the gym, I feel like I can be seen in public without hanging my head in shame. While there are many expensive fitness companies on the market (and I still love those), I need more affordable options since I wear my gym clothes 80% of the time. Enter Active by Old Navy. I wrote about getting to pick out $50 worth of attire the other day and now I have had a chance to actually use my purchases. And I love them even more.
I wore my Old Navy compression capris to the gym on Friday and kicked my booty. I started with 20 minutes of HIIT on the stepmill, did a CrossFit WOD (3 RFT: 100m walking lunges, 50 squats, 20 back extensions), and finished up with the elliptical and core. The compression capris stayed dry thanks to the moisture wicking fabric and moved well through my entire workout. I am so obsessed I immediately went to an Old Navy in Phoenix and bought another pair in grey with my own money.
Yesterday, I sported my active padded cami and the new pair of compression capris to the gym for a stepmill workout and another CrossFit WOD (150 wall balls for time). I am fairly small chested now that I am done breastfeeding so I had enough support with the built in bra. Again, the moisture wicking fabric kept me dry and everything felt great while I was working up a sweat!
The best part? My mom and I had to run to Target after the gym and grabbed some lunch too. I put on the GoDRY running top over my cami and was good to go. I felt confident going into the stores and didn’t feel like a slob. Instead, I felt like a fit and fashionable mama! My favorite thing about the Active by Old Navy line is the prices and don’t forget to check out their sale! The entire line is up to 40% off until tomorrow. January 16! Need some ideas on what to buy? I put together some style boards to help you out
The Runner
1. Side mesh running shorts in flaming flamingo
2. Slub-knit GoDRY Tee in blackjack
4. Active compression leggings
The Yogi
1. Active Compression Jacket in charcoal 2
2. Compression Active Tank in polly ester purple
3. Fold-Over Yoga Pants in retro violet
For CrossFit
1. Active Seamless V-Neck Tank in carbon
2. Compression Capris in eternal flame
The Mom-To-Be
2. Maternity Active Compression Tank in lotus orange neon
3. Maternity Roll-Panel Yoga Pant
At the end of the day, life is too short to wear ugly workout clothes

Winter Fashion with No nonsense
| November 27, 2012 | Posted by Madeline @ Food, Fitness, and Family under Fashion, Reviews |
Slowly but surely temperatures are starting to drop here in Savannah. Today my car read 37* when I left for the gym at 8:30. BRR. That may not seem cold to many of you, but remember I am an Arizona girl at heart
I about froze last winter when we lived in Missouri! With the cooler temperatures comes changes in how I dress. Now, I live in my Lululemon Wunder Unders most days of the week BUT on the occasion that I *gasp* have somewhere to be I like to take advantage of that and dress nice.
When No nonsense offered to send me some corduroy leggings and colored tights to try out you better believe I was all over that. I didn’t get a picture of the packages when they arrived because I was too excited. Blogger fail
The first outfit I made was using the brown corduroy leggings. I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive about how these would love but after seeing I Love You More Than Carrots in a similar pair recently I got the confidence to give them a go. And I am glad I did!
The No nonsense leggings were so flipping comfortable. I wore them to the movies for Chris’ birthday and might as well have been wearing pajamas. They were flattering and definitely provided enough coverage. When I asked Chris what he thought about them he was surprised to realize they were leggings … he thought they were pants! Goes to show the structure is good
Also, being 5’8, they were long enough to not be mid-calf. Another win in my book
I was also sent a pair of mustard yellow No nonsense tights. I am a self-admitted black-and-neutral clothing addict. However, I love pops of color. These tights are definitely a pop of color.
The tights were super soft and comfortable. They also had a control top which most mamas will appreciate
Mustard yellow is one of my favorite fashion colors and I am excited to dream up of another way to wear these tights!
The best part about No nonsense leggings and tights is that they are affordable and easy to find. The corduroy leggings retail online for $18.99 and the tights for $6.49. I have seen similar leggings for upwards of $30! You can find both the tights and leggings online at No nonsense but you can also find the in many food and drug stores as well as mass retail stores. You can check out No nonsense on Facebook or Twitter too.
I am off to live in my leggings for the rest of the day. ;) e>
